the gap skimmer jean

One of my most favorite topics to blog about is when I find a stylish, flattering wardrobe staple for a very reasonable price and get to report it to all of you! Last week, I wondered into the Gap, in search of a pair of affordable pink skinny jeans. I tried on the new Skimmer Legging Jean and was so impressed by the fit, comfort and color selection of these jeans.

Over the past few seasons, I have decided that an ankle-length skinny jean, such as the Skimmer, is one of the most versatile pair of pants a woman can have in her closet. In warm-weather months, this jean looks fab either dressed down with flats or dressed up with heels and in cooler months, this style jeans tucks into boots perfectly, so that no one even knows it’s an ankle length.

lauren’s beauty “must-haves”

I was “tagged” this week on Instagram to post a photo of my “5 makeup essentials.” Here are 5 items that I am currently loving and use pretty much each and every day. {You might notice that there are no lipsticks or glosses in this pic. That’s because I am a lip product lover and could easily do a separate post…which I just might do…on my 5 favorite lip products! It’s way to difficult to just include one!}

1. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eye-Liner. In my opinion, this is one of those beauty products that you use once and then use forever. I have been wearing this liner for years. It applies super smoothly, wears all day and the small pot lasts forever! I wore this liner in “Ivy Shimmer Ink” on my wedding day, wear it in “Chocolate Shimmer Ink” everyday and wear it in “Black Ink” for dressy occasions and night-time. Love it!

2. Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. I was introduced to this product about a year ago and it is hands-down my favorite concealer to date. I love that there are two shades to blend, it’s long lasting and is a miracle-worker for covering anything from hyper-pigmentation, acne, blotchiness and under-eye circles.

3. Yves Saint Laurent “Touche Eclat” Foundation. This one is a new find. I was on the hunt for new foundation about a month ago and talked to a Beauty Stylist at Nordstrom, who recommended this foundation as light and luminous. It is just that! If you are in a Nordstrom or Sephora anytime soon, I highly recommend you sample it!

4. Arbonne Bronzer. I truly couldn’t face the world without bronzer! I have been using and loving this bronzer for years and love it’s even “sun-kissed” color.

5. MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara. Though I am not a fan of the name, I am a big fan of this mascara. I stumbled upon this mascara a few months ago and am astonished that I hadn’t tried it before! In fact, I was talking to a Nordstrom Beauty Stylist today who told me this is her favorite mascara out of all the lines Nordstrom carries…and it is one of the least expensive! It’s a 2-in-1 mascara that lets you choose if you want lashes to be naturally defined, or instantly combed and loaded for full-on drama.

pop of color :: shoes

If you’ve been reading any of my posts, or following me on Instagram, then you already know that I am an obsessive weirdo about a HUGE FAN of color. Looking into my closet, you’ll see about 90% color, and 10% neutrals.

In other words, 90% crazy and 10% sane.

(That actually explains a lot about me, now that I think about it.)

So, when Lauren asked me to show you guys my favorite “pop of color” shoes, I knew the only hard part would be narrowing down my choices. Here goes nothing!

These are, without a doubt, my top pick for spring:

J. Crew Everly Suede Pumps in Chrome Green

Look at them. They’re dying to be in my closet, right? I’d pair these with some cuffed, skinny boyfriend jeans, and a cute blazer or leather jacket for a fun datenight look.

A runner-up for my absolute favorite?

Coraline Patent Pump

These. I am loving the bright orange, paired with that barely there stripe of hot pink.

But since I would have to sell both of my arms to actually buy these shoes, allow me to show you a few more affordable options. (I love you J.Crew. But I really don’t want to dip into AG’s college fund for these.)

Calvin Klein Preila via Zappos

I am OBSESSED with this fun coral color! Plus, at $69, they’re super reasonable. Even more reasonable?

Merona Mali Tassel Loafers

I love and adore these in either the pink or mint green colors. I’d pair them with cuffed jeans and a cute top, OR a casual shirtdress.

Okay. Stop looking at me like that. I know what you’re thinking. Seriously, Sherri?? You expect me to wear neon pink or orange on my FEET?

(Well, yes. Yes, I do.)

But, I’m a reasonable girl. I realize that some of the above choices may be way outside your comfort zone. So here’s an option that would allow you to incorporate a little, teeny tiny pop of color. You know, without feeling like you’re back in 1985.

Finally, in anticipation of spring, something like this may come in handy:

If you’re like me, and suffer from “rainy days make me sad” syndrome, then you probably need these immediately. How can you be sad when you’re wearing lavender boots? Exactly.

There are great finds in every price range out there! If your budget is more of the “frugal fashionista” variety, I’d suggest checking out Target and Old Navy. For those of you who are all, “I love cute shoes, and hey, I don’t need to eat,” then J. Crew is knocking it out of the park this spring. For everyone in the middle, Zappos and Piperlime have some fab options, and allow you to search by price range.

One of the easiest way to incorporate color into your wardrobe is with jewelry. Bright-colored jewelry abounds this season, in every color under the sun. The great thing about jewelry is that you can add it to literally anything already in your closet, pair it with neutrals, other colors, patterns, prints and solids…and you can change it up and pair it with different clothing ensembles all the time. And, did I mention that you can wear any piece of jewelry year round?! I am always telling Edit clients that fun costume jewelry is one of the best investments for your wardrobe, and with the selection of fun colors and styles out for Spring, I don’t think any one is going to need much convincing!

Pop of Color! {a blog series}

One of the biggest trends for Spring 2013 is a “pop of color!” You’ll soon see bright colors everywhere and incorporated into clothing, shoes, jewels and accessories of every kind. The look is to add a pop of bright color to a neutral outfit as well as to mix brights together unexpectedly. What colors you ask?! Think bright shades of yellows, greens, oranges and corals, hot pink, turquoise and blues…even neons! The great thing about this trend is that anyone of any style and any age can find a way to make it work for them. If you are more conservative in your style, try adding a pop of color through an accessory, such as a belt, a pair of ballet flats or a bright pair of earrings. If you are fashion-forward, try mixing up fun new color combinations…the sky is the limit to the looks you can create when mixing brights. It’s always safe to include a “neutral” piece such as something denim or a nude shoe if the rest of the outfit is colorful. Another great thing about this trend? Most all these brights look great on a wide range of skin tones, so they are a “safe” range of colors to experiment with, without fearing being washed out. Turquoise, bright coral and kelly/emerald greens are especially universally flattering.

sherri’s beauty “must-haves”

We all know girls with perfectly made up faces, right? You know, the ones who always look airbrushed, AND somehow manage to rock the perfect smoky eye.

I am most definitely not one of them.

When I attempt the smoky eye, I somehow end up looking like Tammy Faye Baker. I also tend to forget that I am in my late, late, late 20’s (also known as my early thirties), and can no longer swipe on my lip gloss, and run barefaced into the world.

(Well, I CAN. But I shouldn’t.)

There’s really not much to say about this, except that it is a wonder. I’ve never been a huge fan of foundation, because it always felt so heavy. But this is an awesome alternative, that is GREAT for your skin. LOVE.

Now, if only I could learn to do a smoky eye…..
