Three Wardrobe Staples for the New Year :: Part 3

And the third must-have staple to round out your wardrobe {sorry men, this one is for ladies, only!} is…

A fabulous, “go-to” signature accessory. It amazes me how many women underestimate the power of a great accessory to literally transform their wardrobe. I hear women say all the time:: “I can’t afford to spend money on jewelry, I need to spend my money on clothes.” The truth is that a single statement necklace or one fun pair of earrings can recreate what is already hanging in your closet!

If you are budget-conscious, I highly recommend treating yourself to one new piece of playful costume jewelry for the new year…something you absolutely LOVE. If you are an earring girl, try a pair of statement earrings like chandelier earrings with are both on-trend and highly-versatile. Or, if you are not afraid of a bold accessory, try a statement necklace in a color or metallic that you adore. If you are more conservative when it comes to accessorizing, select a unique delicate necklace that becomes your everyday go-to piece. Any of these three selections can be paired with anything from jeans and a tee shirt to a cocktail dress and everything in between. Over time, you’ll be amazed at how many more outfits you feel like you own as you collect a great selection of jewelry. And even if you have just one or two pieces of jewelry you adore, you will be amazed by how this little investment adds a pop to the simplest of outfits and becomes the conversation piece of your outfit while you are out and about.

Confession: I don’t know how to curl my hair. Insanity, I know…

For those of you who know Lauren, you know she has fabulously long blonde hair that’s almost always perfectly curled in that I’m -not-trying-to-look-so-perfect-but-it’s-happening….sigh. BUT I have resolved that 2011 would be the year of hair for me. I have already (sorta) figured out the at-home blow out, and thanks to the how-to video below I found on dailycandy.com there might be hope for my own curly hair future!!

How fun is this?! Prada’s new sunglasses (sold exclusively by Sunglass Hut and Prada Boutiques) are totally customized and personalized! They even showcase your initials! Here’s how it works:: You choose the color (tortoise or black). Then select the monogram. It’s no surprise style-savvy celebs like Reese Witherspoon and Kate Moss are already sporting these shades. I’m thinking I just might have to have them, too!

Discoveries of the week!

I am always on the lookout for new products to try. From hair-ties to body butter, you know by now that I love.it.all.

This week I found two new things. One I am quickly falling in love with, and the other I am dying to try.

1. NARS Velvet gloss lip pencil: I know what you’re thinking, “Seriously, Callie? You have a million-and-one lip colors!” –well, you’re right. But REALLY, my investment in finding these new things is for YOU the reader who needs me to make these sacrifices in the name of beautiful lips!!

But I digress. Why I am la-LOVING this right now is because the texture of the pencil is creamy like a lipstick, has a touch of sheen like lipgloss and has the staying power of a lip pencil/liner. Perfection!! Not to mention is comes in a million flattering colors.

2. Trader Joe’s Sunscreen (SPF 30, the perfect coverage to protect and still get some color): Who the heck knew TJ’s would have sunscreen down their aisles?? I am a BIG fan of this little store and the way that they do customer service and good for you, quality food. PLUS, I love sunscreen. This one doesn’t have any werido extras in it — and best of all for the ladies, it’s oil free (read: no fun in the sun induced bacne or breakouts…yuck) !!

Jackets for a Deal

I went on my first Christmas shopping trip this week… with a goal of just window shopping. I’m rather picky when it comes to gift buying and prefer shopping around before deciding on the perfect picks for my loved ones. To my surprise, I found myself in love with at least one thing in almost every store we went in! The unplanned theme of the shopping trip was jackets…and if I didn’t have so many already I would added one of these beauties to my own wish list.

I was amazed when I walked in to the Lucky Brand store and saw this adorable faux fur bolero (pictured above). The picture doesn’t do it justice! It’s currently on-sale for $109.00. It’s the ideal layering piece for dressing up jeans or complementing a LBD..so cute.

Most of the time, I prefer to pile on the layers when I dress, always having been decidedly firm on the need for a third piece. I enjoy being adventurous with my styling choices because it gives me a chance to express myself. But some times, it feels refreshing and new to wear less. Whether it be less color combination’s, less layering or less design detail, this look can be powerful.

No matter what your personal style preferences are, please dress true to yourself. As you know, fashion trends are fleeting, but if you stick with what makes you feel beautiful, you will look radiant for years to come.
