Bras:: Wash after 3-4 wears. Since bras don’t directly come in contact with underarms, they can stay fresh quite a while without washing. However, it’s super important to allow a bra to “rest” 24 hours between wears, so the elastic can recover. A rotation system is important. Also, I have found that washing my bras and undies in a mesh lingerie bag, tossed in the washing machine, has literally extended the life of my undergarments by months and months!

Jeans:: Wash after 4-5 wears. Over-washing causes jeans to fade and fray. Always wash jean inside out in cold water. I always hang mine to dry and then just “fluff” them to soften the denim for a few minutes in the dryer once they have air-dried.

Dress Pants:: Wash after 4-5 wears. Since dress pants are usually warn indoors, inside air-conditioning during warmer months, they just don’t get as dirty as quickly as other garments. Take note that most dress pants are “dry-clean only.”

Jackets and Blazers:: Wash after 5-6 wears. Since jackets and blazers are worn over another shirt or cami, they are kept away from underarm sweat and odors for the most part. However, jackets seem to attract other smells, such as smoke from a bar, fajitas from a Mexican restaurant or coffee from a coffee shop, so sniff your outer-layers each time you take them off. Find an unwanted smell? Try Fabreeze or other fabric-spray to ward off odors temporarily and eek out a few more wears.

Pajamas:: Wash after 3-4 wears. The rule of thumb is swap out your PJ’s twice as often as you wash your sheets. Experts say we sweat a lot more than we think at night plus we shed tens of thousands of cells while we sleep, giving ample reason to wash those sleep-suits often!!

T-shirts, Tanks and Camisoles:: Wash after every wear. Treat these like underwear. Our body-hugging shirts absorb sweat and oils and need wash if you have worn them over 4 hours. If you only wore the shirt for an hour or two, you can put off washing til after one more wear.

Swimsuits:: Wash after every wear. Salt and chlorine will eat away at your swimwear and stretch it out prematurly. Handwash your swimsuits in cold water and a gentle detergent each and every time you take them off. Hang dry.

1. A shirtdress (pictured shirtdress by Elizabeth and James). Wear booties barelegged with this dress during warm months and add a pair of opaque or patterned tights for Fall.

2. A ruffled, floral feminine dress (pictured by Fire/Nordstrom Juniors). This is a great way to incorporate booties into your summer wardrobe. Just throw on a denim jacket for a cute transitional Fall look.

3. Cropped or cuffed pants with a tee, jacket, or cardi. I saw a pair of military-styled cargo pants cuffed with booties in Lucky Magazine and loved the look. Below is a pic of a similar look featured on Anthropologie.com. Since the military look is a huge trend for fall, this is a great way to blend western booties into a military motif!

4. Cropped or cuffed jeans. Of course, a straight or skinny leg jean is going to look best cuffed! Throw on booties with a pair of fitted jeans, a long tee and a statement necklace for a laid-back, funky look.

These Citizens are currently my favorite straight-legs. They look great cuffed!

5. An above-the-knee skirt. Any casual or whimsical skirt, including denim, cargo or floral-printed, should pair well with booties. The thing to love about skirts is that most styles and patterns can be worn year-round simply by adding tights.
