Most of the time, I prefer to pile on the layers when I dress, always having been decidedly firm on the need for a third piece.  I enjoy being adventurous with my styling choices because it gives me a chance to express myself. But some times, it feels refreshing and new to wear less. Whether it be less color combination’s, less layering or less design detail, this look can be powerful.

No matter what your personal style preferences are, please dress true to yourself.  As you know, fashion trends are fleeting, but if you stick with what makes you feel beautiful, you will look radiant for years to come.

Stacking and layering bracelets is one of the hottest accessory looks of the season. Nearly anything goes these days in terms of mixing metals, materials and colors. I’m loving this look for both casual every-day and glam party wear. The trick is to make sure you have at least 3 bracelets to ensure the layered look. As with anything in the design world, odd numbers are better than evens, so think in terms of wearing 3, 5, 7 bracelets. (Yes, you can wear up to 7-9 bracelets…or more…easily if they are thin bangles.) Have fun experimenting with mixing old and new peices. For instance, perhaps you have an “old” pearl bracelet or two from a relative or a bridesmaid gift you received. Try mixing the pearl bracelet with gold or silver bangles for a more unique stack look. Have some colored beaded bracelets? Also try stacking them with metal bangles, leather wrap bracelets or even a wide metal cuff.

If you plan on purchasing some new bracelets or bangles to achieve the layering look, I highly recommend taking inventory on what you already own and even bringing some of your own bracelets shopping with you.

Here are some layering examples from my favorite jewelry line, Stella & Dot::

1. This is a great example of mixing leather wraps and metallic bangles for a very hip look.

2. Love how a pop of color in the form of turquoise is added to silvery metalic shades in the example below. Turquoise is typically thought of a summer shade, but looks amazing in fall and winter paired with neutral, shimmery hues.

3. These Pearl Pave Bracelets are a perfect example of the type of pearl bracelet to add to a stack of bangles for a layered vintage look. You may have something like these in your jewelry box!

4. If you are looking for a bracelet to tie together both gold and silver, this is the perfect bracelet to add to your arm. This Vintage Twist Bracelet is what I wear when mixing metallics. It’s gorgeous!

Nick & Mo Ruffled Jacket in Black

I’ve been shopping for the perfect tweed work jacket for a client and finally found one to get excited about! This tweed jacket by Nick & Mo is incredibly chic and is the ideal transitional jacket to take you from work to a casual evening look, simply by pairing with jeans rather than slacks or a skirt. This timeless staple looks oh-so-pricey on… though the price-tag is more than affordable at just $68. Oh, and did I mention it comes in three pretty shades…Camel, Black and Berry?! Nick & Mo Ruffled Jacket in Camel

This Old Navy Ruffled Wool Coat is such a cutie for the price. It’s on sale now for just $60 (marked down from $89.50). It’s been recently featured in People Magazine in Red, which, in my opinion is the color to purchase it in, if you can find it! It appears that this coat is sold-out in red online, but your local Old Navy may still have a few left. If you can’t find the coat in red, I recommend the Rosemary Blue (pictured above), which wold be a flattering color on most all skin-tones and hair-colors.

There are three primary ways I recommend my clients wear their belts::

1. To cinch a dress or tunic.

Many wrap dresses, shirt dresses and tunics come with a fabric tie/belt. Often-times these fabric ties either don’t hit on flattering part of the waist or simply don’t cinch the waist enough to define it. I recommend removing the fabric belt and replacing it with a thicker belt. The tunic below is a great example of a top that’s look will completely change just by adding a wide belt.

2. Around a long cardigan (or vest).

One of my favorite Fall/Winter looks is a belt wrapped around a long cardi. Make sure the cardigan hits below your hip before attempting to belt it with a wide belt. (A skinny belt is a better option for belting a shorter cardi.) The outfit including a long boyfriend cardigan pictured below is a perfect example of a great one to belt.

3. Around a below the hip, light-weight jacket, like a trench coat.

Change up the look of any light-weight jacket in your wardrobe by trying to belt it. Again, many jackets of this kind, including the one pictured below, come with a fabric belt, but adding a more substantial leather belt will change up the look. Adding a belt to an outerwear garment makes it more a part of your outfit, versus something you just wear when stepping outdoors.
