An Around-Town Lounge Pant

There’s just something about cold weather that makes me want to dress as comfy and cozy as much as possible…and being 8 months pregnant these days really emphasizes this! That’s why I’m thrilled about J.Crew’s new Skinny Ultra-Lounge Pant ($49.50). It’s the ultimate lounge pant that can double as leggings that you can wear out and about. Simply swap your slippers for a pair of casual boots or Uggs, pull on a sweater and you can transition these pants from around-the-house lounge pants to a cute around-about-town look. Thanks, J.Crew, for inventing pajama-like pants that make an acceptable outside-the-house fashion statement!

Madewell Fall Dresses

I love the versility of a great Fall Dress. A classic, above the knee, sleeveless, long-sleeved or 3/4-sleeved dress can be worn with or without tights, belted or un-belted and with endless shoe possibilities, from tall boots to ankle booties to pumps to oxfords to ballet flats. Simply throw on a cropped coat, jacket or drapey cardi to transition into Winter temps. If you don’t have such a dress in your closet, it’s the time to shop for one! I’m loving Madewell’s Fall Dress Collection. Here are a few of my absolute favorites…though there isn’t anything in Madewell’s current dress collection I wouldn’t be thrilled to wear!

The Tea-Party Dress ($148). A vintage throwback with its 1940s silhouette and antique floral print.

The Swingy Silk Shirt Dress ( $148). As laid-back as your favorite tunic but with pretty pleats and a gathered waist that make it far more flirty.

The Autumn Feathers Silk Dress ($148). Swept up in ’80s nostalgia, this wisp-thin dress with loose peplum details takes you there with a totally modern twist.

The Chatelaine Dress ($138). Eye-catching, effortless and chic: a starburst of bronzed beads tops a silky, cinched-waist shift.

Totally Tortoise

Tortoise shell accessories are the perfect counterpart to yesterday’s “Crazy for Camel” post. Few wardrobe pairings look classier, in my opinion, than rich camel tones mixed with tortoise accessories, such as jewelry, watches, shoes or sunglasses. You can invest in anything tortoise with ease, knowing it will look classic and current for ages.

An Autumn Cape

The September issue of Anthropologie’s catalog arrived in my mailbox today and I was immediately drawn to this cape. Love, love, love the autumn hues and the lines on this plaid cape-jacket. The three-quarter sleeves make it a wonderfully transitional piece, allowing you to wear anything from a tank to short sleeves to long sleeves underneath. I am so ready for Fall weather and seeing this lovely cape put me even more in the mood for crisp weather and Pumpkin Spice Lattes.

Black Magic

The Gap just launched a new, extensive line of black pants, which the brand is calling “Black Magic.” Although I haven’t tried them on yet personally (primarily because I’m fairly confident I won’t get an accurate fit due to my preggo belly), I’ve read tons of raving reviews on the pants. Styles vary from boot-cut to trouser to skinny to straight-leg to cropped and the prices are extremely reasonable, ranging from $49.50-$59.50. Since the color black is all the rage this Fall season, we are all in need of a great pair of black pants. Remember that black pants aren’t just for the office anymore. You can wear them in a million different ways, from daytime sporty to nighttime sexy. They are the newest pant wardrobe staple.

Preparing for Leather Weather

Levi's Leather Moto Jacket

If you haven’t invested in a great leather jacket in past years, this is the year. Designers are debuting many different cuts and colors this season, including black, brown, and gray, and in silhouettes such as “the Biker,” “the Bomber” and “the Blazer.” I purchased the Levi’s Leather Moto Jacket ($99, shown above) last Fall season and am so looking forward to wearing it again as soon as the weather turns cool! I love leather jackets paired simply with jeans and a white tee or dressed up a bit with a mini dress, tights, and boots…of course there are so many more outfit combinations you can create!. In particular, the Levi’s Moto Jacket has such a flattering fit and leather so soft that you can roll the sleeves up effortlessly.

Extra Long Layering Tanks

In my opinion, a girl cannot have enough laying tanks in your wardrobe. Layering tanks need to be different than workout tanks and long length and a smooth fit is a must. As the weather turns cooler this Fall (here’s hoping temps will change soon!), layering tanks become a critical building block in a woman’s wardrobe. A ribbed tank looks great under cardigans, jackets, blazers, vests and are, of course, useful under itchy winter sweaters.

This Extra Long Ribbed Tank by Stem is amazingly soft and long in length, making it the ideal tank to layer with anything, including wearing with tighter-fitting leggings or jeggings in the coming months. (Note, what makes these tanks awesome for layering is that they lay smooth and a bit clingy to the body. These tanks look much better worn under another layer rather than worn on their own, since they are a bit sheer.) Though these tanks are advertised at $26 online, they are currently just $13.90 in Nordstom stores! I highly recommend stocking up on three basic colors:: white, black and gray. These three shades will mix and match with nearly everything imaginal and get you througha year’s worth of layered outfits! Want the deal but don’t live near a Nordstrom? Simply call the TBD department at a Nordstrom store and ask them to ship the on-sale tanks to you!
