Style for a Steal:: Skinny Jeans

Welcome to Edit’s new regular Thursday post topic:: Style for a Steal! Each Thursday, we will highlight a fashion or beauty item that’s price and value is just too good to be true! Who doesn’t love a deal, right?!

Since delivering my twins seven weeks ago, I’ve been searching high and low for a pair of jeans that will help flatter my postpartum body, without breaking the bank. Who wants to invest lots of money in a pair of jeans a size larger than you care to be {and that will hopefully be too large on you soon!}, right?! During this search, my fabulous, fashionable sister-in-law, Ashley, turned me on to the J.Crew Toothpick Jean. I admit I was quite skeptical that my post-baby body could squeeze into anything with the name “toothpick,” but I tried them on anyway and was pleasantly surprised by the flattery of these jeans. {I choose the darkest rinse denim color for the most slimming look possible.}

Priced at $125 retail, I found the Toothpick at the J.Crew Factory Outlet for 40% off of $59.99. bringing them to just $35.99! The Factory Outlet regularly carries the Toothpick {as well as the Matchstick, its counterpart} in most all stores. These jeans are definitely worth the drive to your nearest outlet mall if you are on the hunt for a great pair of skinnies. Better yet, try the jeans on for size at your local retail store and call the outlet to hold your size before making the trip. For the best fit, look for a pair with some stretch in the fabric (not all the Toothpick’s have the stretch).

At this price, you can purchase TWO pairs for about half the cost of one retail pair {which is exactly what I did}!

A Cool Summer Cardi

I recently purchased this J.Crew Linen Silk Pocket Cardigan (currently on sale for $59.99) off the clearance rack at a local J.Crew store. I’ve decided that it is the perfect summer cardigan and worth every penny! Now I want one in every color available! Love the length, the shiny silk pockets and the airy, breathable, sheer material.

This is the shade I chose, called Smoke, which is a go-with-everything neutral.

Men’s Style Monday:: A Smart Summer Shirt

Thanks to J.Crew for debuting a new collection of breathable, stay-cool-during-summer shirts. In the words of J.Crew, the
Secret Wash Lightweight Button-Down Shirts ($59.50) are “sublimely soft, incredibly lightweight cotton shirts we’ve peached and Secret Washed to perfection.”

My absolute favorite pattern, that is on my list to soon purchase for my hubbie, is the Pomegranate Tundra Plaid.

This Gingham pattern shirt highlights one of the hottest patterns of this season.

If a solid shirt is more your style, the Secret Wash shirt also comes in a great variety of solid colors, including plain white, which is a summer-time basic.

What’s not to adore about dresses that can comfortably transition from poolside to the beach to a patio lunch while on vacation? Gap’s Athleta and J.Crew both have a fun variety of cute sundresses dresses in fabrics designed to double as beach and lounge wear. Add a pair of statement earrings or necklace to any of these dresses and wear to a summer lunch-date or picnic.

A Must-Have:: The Grand Ruffle Shell

If you haven’t yet bought into the ruffle trends of the past year, it’s time to bite the bullet. I find myself telling my clients all the time how flattering a center-ruffle is down a shirt. A vertical ruffle lengthens and slims, drawing the eye away from figure flaws such as a large chest or waist. J.Crew’s Grand Ruffle Shell is a perfect example of such a shirt and an ideal tank for Spring that can be worn on its own or layered under a jacket or cardigan. Add some long layered necklaces to increase the figure-lengthening effect! (This shirt is so popular that it is already sold out in some colors onlie, so if you like it, buy it soon!)

Look-alikes

While shopping with a client yesterday, I found a blouse at Nordstrom that’s a twin to the popular J.Crew sleeveless ruffled blouses. Great news is that the Nordstrom version, called the ECI Ruffle Collar Shirt, is nearly half the price at $58 and is, in my opinion, more flattering than the J.Crew version. Lots to love about that! This blouse is available in white, black, lime green, orange and pink in store and in black, white, orange and navy online. This blouse (like the J.Crew version) looks amazing under a cardigan or jacket. It can be tucked into a high waisted skirt for a sophisticated look or paired with jeans for a more casual look. I wear by J.Crew look-alike blouse so much that I am tempted to buy one of these in every color!
