I’ll be honest…I don’t think I have worn jeans with a bootcut or flare in years. {In fact, when I shot this outfit in my college town of Athens, GA a few weeks back, I commented to my photog that this was the first time I had worn flared jeans since I was actually walking those same streets as a student at the University of Georgia!} Skinny jeans have been my main-stay for endless seasons and I am very excited for the welcome change of a different jean-style trending this season.
Why bring back the flares and bell-bottoms? Flared jeans are incredibly flattering on most every body type, especially curvy gals like myself. They balance out the hips and thighs, and the newer mid-to-high rise styles {like I am wearing in this post} are actually great at flattering the mid-section. {Side note :: The pair I am pictured wearing here are by Paige and they are heavenly in fit, comfort and flattery. You’ll be seeing them a lot in the coming months, because they are my new “go”-to jeans!}
The only “down-side” to flared pants is the shoe limitations. Wide-bottomed jeans and pants need to be worn with a heel or wedged pump or ankle bootie for Fall. Flats don’t add enough “balance” to the flare and tall boots are a “no-no” with this style pant.
Another thing to keep in mind when styling flared jeans is to balance out the wider leg with a more fitted top or by tucking a blouse into the pants. Long, blousy tunic-styled tops and flared jeans don’t usually mix.
Here’s how I styled my new favorite flares ::
