shopping with sherri & lauren

It’s no secret that the Edit girls love to shop. And we’re always saying how fun it would be to go shopping with all of our blog readers.  But since that might be just a tad logistically difficult/insane, we figured that we could bring our shopping trip here to the blog.
Last Saturday, Lauren and I hit up one of our favorite stores, so that we could hide from our kids and eat cupcakes all afternoon research some perfect pieces for transitioning to fall.

(See how shopping is made legitimate when you call it “research?”)

First stop was our OTHER favorite store, you know, the one with that RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING SALE happening?

Yes.  Unfortunately, I had an entire box of items to return, due to things like fit issues, husband’s weeping and gnashing of teeth, etc.

(If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a crazy shopaholic, march into Nordstrom holding a BOX.  That’ll do it.)

Can you spot my favorite beauty item of all time?? It’s starts with “Smash,” and ends with “box.”

I don’t know about you, but all this returning has made me thirsty.  It’s time for some iced beverages….and it may or may not have been my 3rd one of the day.  (Insert cringe-y face emoji here).

Next up, is a store that both Lauren and I adore.  Like, if I could sneak my way into Anthropologie, hide under a bed, and then frolic around the store at night after closing time…..I totally wouldn’t actually do that. No.  So creepy.  (Nervous laughter, nervous laughter.)

But seriously, Anthro security guards…..don’t start checking under the beds.  M-kay?

After racing around the store, throwing a few elbows, and snagging everything cute we could find….this is what we ended up with:

First up, these perfect for summer-to-fall outfits….

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.46.19 AM

Listen.  These pants are the staple of all staples, people.  The AG Stevie Ankle Jean is flattering on EVERYONE, comes in amazing colors, and the ankle length is totally perfect.  Two years ago, I bought them in pink and red, and y’all?  I still wear them all the time.  ALL THE TIME.  Cost per wear is down to about .0007 cents each time.

(Wait.  That makes me sound dirty.  I do wash them, I promise.)

Get them, and avoid the buyers regret I’ve been having since Saturday when I did not take these lavender ones home with me.

I need to go cry now.

I was also pretty obsessed with the Neve Sweater Tank, because A) I live in Georgia, and B) I live in Georgia.  This is perfect for cool weather, and bonus, will layer SO PERFECTLY under coats/jackets during the winter.

Lauren’s wearing :: Hudson Shirtdress. I envision wearing this dress now with sandals and into Fall with boots. It’s super soft and comfortable and the perfect everyday dress. It can also double as tunic for wearing with leggings and skinny jeans. AND, it would be cute with a leather belt, too {in lieu of the sash}. -LL

Here is what we learned from these pants:  if you have very thin legs (like Lauren), these are ADORABLE.  If you have legs that are more on the curvy/athletic side (like me), look for a pair without the embellishments.

The other lesson learned?  Don’t wear a black bra under a white top.

You’re welcome.

Lauren’s wearing :: Pavlova Peplum Top and Pilcro Stet Sateen-Stripe Jeans. These pants are stretchy and comfy, but I agree with Sherri that they are not the most flattering, due to the placement of the fabric “stripes.” This top is so feminine and pretty, and would look fantastic layerd under a blazer or leather jacket into Fall. -LL

This olive military jacket is FAB y’all.  For real.  So flattering on everyone (and we know, because we both fell in love with it), and super versatile for  your fall wardrobe.

If ever there was a picture to describe how I feel about taking dressing room selfies, this is it.

(Whenever you’re uncomfortable, just do the awkward butt grab.  You’ll be fine.)

Lauren’s wearing :: Susana Buttondown, Pilcro Stet Slim Bootcut Jeans and Saumer Belt {currently on sale!}. I haven’t purchased bootcut jeans in nearly a decade {or at least it feels like it’s been that long!}, and I am seriously considering incorporating this pair into my Fall wardrobe. They fit great and are incredibly comfy. If you are considering adding a bit of flare back into your jeans, this pair is a must-try. -LL

Drumroll, please…….this cobalt top was my favorite purchase of the day.  I may or may not have grabbed it and started awkwardly hugging it to myself, while shouting MINE, MINE, MINE!

(Okay, I didn’t.  I try not to engage in behaviors that would get me kicked out of my favorite store permanently.)

We both loved this top so much, that we both took it home.  That really says it all. If I could reach through the computer, grab your credit card, and buy this for all of you, I would DO. IT.

Lauren’s wearing :: Clemente Tank in black and Level 99 Lily Cropped Jeans. This top is so fun, that, again, we both went home with one. I’ll be wearing mine with all kinds of denim, shorts, tucked into skirts and layered under jackets into Fall. This is the first time I have tried Level 99 jeans and adored the fit and comfort of this pair. A very good fitting jean for under $100, that I highly recommend. They are also available in black. -LL

Okay.  The dress in this next picture wasn’t much to look at on the hanger.  All I have to say is this: THE POWER OF A BELT.

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.54.53 AM

Lauren’s wearing :: Seva Tunic and Level 99 Lily Ankle Jeans. I love this tunic SO much. {And talked Sherri into purchasing it herself, in hopes that I can borrow it!} -LL

Sherri’s wearing :: Mira Shirtdress and a belt that I can’t find online.  BUT, this is a similar option.

Not gonna lie: when I first put this jumpsuit on, I told Lauren that I felt like I was in prison.

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.55.59 AM

But, THEN.  Then, we paired it with a belt.  And suddenly, I felt like, Oh hey, there cute little jumpsuit! I could totally wear you.  Well, except for the whole “getting naked every time I have to pee” thing.

Here’s an up close look at the detail:

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.55.32 AM

When Lauren pulled this skirt, we both commented on how it’s so “her.”

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.55.43 AM

Lauren’s wearing :: T. La Garment-Dyed V-Neck and Ribboned Swing Skirt. I don’t necessarily love these paired together {I was utilitzing a top I had already had in the dressing room}, BUT I do LOVE both this tee and this skirt! This tee comes in a dozen or so colors and is the perfect basic layering top. And this skirt is just the cutest. I took it home with me and will be styling it for an upcoming outfit post, so stay tuned! -LL

Again, with the jumpsuits for me!  And I know what you’re thinking: “But Sherri, even if I could get past that whole strip down to pee thing, this is a SUMMER piece.  NOT a transition to fall piece.

BUT! A-HA!  It actually IS a perfect transition piece.  It is super light, but will go great with my leather jacket when temps get a little cooler.

Oh, we’re sorry, Sherri.  We’ll never doubt you again.  You are so wise.

No?

Lauren’s wearing :: Huntington Beach Moto Pants and Marais Anorak. I tried on these pants for something fun and bit different than something I would normally wear. Surprisingly, I really liked them, and recommend them for a fun blousy summer pant, that can wear into Fall with ease. I think they would look fantastic paired with heels or caged sandals. And, Sherri brought this jacket into the dressing room, and I just had to try it on myself. I love it…it’s so much cuter on than on the hanger! A fall must-have, for sure. -LL

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.57.50 AM

Annnnd, here’s what we went home with.  I’m also just realizing that I’m the one holding all the hangers. (It would be super helpful if Apple could incorporate the cringe-y face emoji into their keyboards.  I’m thinking I would use it often.)

And what did we do next? Toasted our shopping day with an after party at Sprinkles, of course.  Aw, aren’t those minis so precious and adorable?

BE FOR REAL.  That was an appetizer to my actual cupcake.  Or four.

Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 10.58.20 AM

We had so much fun on our Anthropologie excursion!  We decided that we need to do this once a month.  (FOR THE BLOG, of course.)  And since we realize that not everyone wants to be an under-the-bed-hiding, Athropologie freak, we would love to shop at YOUR favorite store next time!  Sound off in the comments, or tweet us (@editbylauren), and tell us where you want us to shop next.

Or, just show up at Sprinkles for the after-party.

Until next time,
