I am excited to share our new family room addition with you today. {I am titling this post “Part 1” since there are still totally blank walls and windows to accessorize and decorate!}
Before diving in, here’s a little backstory on this room remodel :: Mike and I bought our house a few months after we were married, in 2008. It was a new home and we knew only one family in our subdivision at the time. Never would I have dreamed of living in this same house ten years later! But as life would {gratefully} play out, we brought our twins home to this house and, over the years, our entire family has built incredibly strong friendships with our neighbors. These friends and neighbors have literally lived daily together, through all of the ups and downs of ten years, and our kids have grown up together. It’s been the kind of close-knit neighborhood community that people only dream of!
Fast forward to the past few years, when our kids were out of “toddler-hood” and we felt the need for a larger home. We spent over a year house-hunting, but felt called to stay where we are time and time again. {Our kids would would cry every time we went to look at another house, since they don’t want to move, were pretty convincing!!} We finally decided to transform our home into the best it could be, and to remodel our garage into a new living area, that opens into our kitchen.
Our vision for this space was to create a light and airy open room for entertaining, family time and TV watching. We added two windows, and created a new 16 foot opening between this room and our newly renovated kitchen. {Stay tuned for the kitchen reveal coming soon!}
Here is a peak into the new space, decorated primarily with Grandin Road furniture and accessories, Troy lighting and Jaipur pillows ::
Since this is our primary family room/TV room, I wanted it to be comfortable for lounging and entertaining. These oversized slipcovered Ava sofas from Grandin Road could not be more cozy, and also easy to clean, which makes them perfect for a space often filled with kids! I added the Ava Slipcovered Chair and a Half to the space, to provide an extra seat, and it’s the favorite spot for Mike, Jack and Lily to sit together to watch movies! If you are on the hunt for family room/media room comfy seating, I cannot more highly recommend these pieces!

My favorite accessory in the room is hands-down this gorgeous Alexa Fringe Rug from Grandin Road. The colors are even more stunning in person than they appear on the website. Pictures don’t do it justice! I am partnering with Grandin Road to GIVEAWAY this rug, in any size, to one follower over on my Instagram @laurenlefevre. Head over to my feed to enter to win!
I used the Alexa rug to set the color-scheme for the room, pulling navy and blush hues into pillows and decorative accessories. I couldn’t love these fun pattern-mixed pillows by Jaipur Living. {I have linked most of the pillows at the end of the post.}
Also, it’s amazing how adding some greenery to a space immediately gives it vitality and extra-life! After unsuccessfully keeping a real fiddle-leaf tree live in my master bedroom last year, I opted for this silk version from Grandin Road, and cannot believe how real it looks. This fiddle leaf tree comes in two sizes, and this is the larger one.
Another favorite accessory that completes the room is this stunning light fixture by Troy Lighting. You can see I carried the gold metallic theme throughout the space, including the cabinet pulls, lamps and accessories.
{On a side note, these super cute slippers are by Birdies and as comfy as they are pretty! What a great gift they make!}
Last but not least, I love the addition of this Harper Console from Grandin Road to the room. The drawers serve as a perfect “catch all” storage area, and I love that I can switch up the decor and functionality of this console table to utilize it for both pretty seasonal decor to a cocktail/wine station for entertaining.
This round mirror, also by Grandin Road, is a perfect compliment the console table, too!
Overall, I am thrilled about how this new addition is shaping up to be a comfortable, warm, cozy and inviting place for relaxing and full of color and vibrancy for entertaining! I look forward to sharing more of it once I get some wall groupings and art up on the walls, and also showing it styled with some Fall and Holiday decor in the coming months.
Be sure to head over to my Instagram feed @laurenlefevre tonight to enter to win this amazingly gorgeous Alexa Rug from Grandin Road.
