Hell just froze over. I’m actually wearing a faux leather skirt and even worse – I like it.
My first thought when leather reemerged on the trendy fashion scene was “no way, I’m too old”. Leather pants and skirts are for women in their 20’s who don’t have kids. I didn’t think I could possibly pull off leather on my lower half…EVER. Well friends, never say never.
Leather can actually be very feminine and doesn’t have to talk tough. Faux leather options can also be quite affordable and the quality looks like an exact duplicate of it’s more expensive cousin.
Things to keep in mind when trying a leather or faux leather skirt:
1. The fit is the most important piece to the puzzle. It’s crucial that your leather skirt is NOT skin tight. The most flattering style is one that skims the body or has a slight flare.
2. Price plays a huge part in your selection. Most of the time, cheap prices mean poor quality and fit. Search for rich-looking materials that are supple to the touch. Look at this as an investment piece and buy the best quality you can afford.
3. It’s all in the attitude so have fun. Dress up your leather skirt with a feminine lace or printed blouse. Or you can go casual with a stripe tee and a denim jacket for a less serious look. Finish either look off with a pretty heel!
