If you follow me on social media, you know that I have been on a “switching to safer” skincare/beauty journey over the past year. You can read more about it on this post.
Two weeks ago, I traveled to Minneapolis {my first time to this super-cool city!} for the Beautycounter Leadership Summit, where I had the privilege of hearing from Maria Shriver, as well as the leaders and innovators n the safe beauty industry.
What I love about Beautycounter is that we are the leaders of safe skincare and beauty with the most rigerous testing/screening standards of any US company AND that our products are both SAFE and PERFORM. We often describe our products as Whole Foods meeting Chanel, which couldn’t feel any more true! We ban over 1500 potentially harmful ingredients, and are literally leading a movement for change in regulation and safer laws in the United States and beyond.
Since returning from Summit, many of you have been asking me “Where do I start?” and “Which products should I swap out first?!” I am a firm believer in swapping/replacing with safer products as you run out of what you already have, and these are my top five products to start with ::
1. Body Wash. If you think about it, it makes sense that your body quickly absorbs whatever you put on it in the shower, since your pores are open due to heat and moisture while bathing. I love that this amazing smelling Beautycounter Citrus Mimosa Body Wash is rich and moisturizing, and doubles as a shave cream! My hubby and kids use it, too!
2. Body Lotion. One of the first products I switched to safer was body lotion. I figured that since I was slathering lotion from head to toe each day, this was an important place to start removing toxins! I love the Beautycounter Body Butter for intense hydration and just started using the brand new Countermatch Body Lotion…it adapts to your skin all day and has a light-almond scent which I love. The mainstay Citrus Mimosa Body Lotion is a fabulous place to start, too!
3. Lip Gloss / Lip Stick. If you are anything like me, you apply lip gloss/ chapstick / lip stick throughout each day. Conventional lipstick is full of lead and toxins {YIKES!}, and the fact that what goes on our lips is ingested is reason enough to switch to safer. {If you can’t give up your favorite lipstick, it’s okay. I recommend using a safe lipstick/gloss for everyday and saving your “less-safe” fav for special occasions
I am a huge fan of Beautycounter Lipglosses {my favs are Azalea and Poppy Shimmer for Summer}, the new Intense-Color Lipsticks {my current fav is Garden Party} and I swear by the Lip Conditioner…I apply it at night, in the morning and throughout the day. If you prefer a very sheer lipstick, you will love these!
4. Sunscreen. If you read or watch the news, you are probably aware of the dangers of toxic-laden sunscreen that are making headlines everywhere! Beautycounter’s sunscreen collection as been my family’s go-to for the past two summer season’s and I am SO thrilled about the just-launched Sunscreen Spray! We also love the Sunscreen Sticks for quick and easy application on the face, shoulders and arms. Beautycounter Sunscreens apply like a dream and contain UVA, UVB and Blue Light blocking filters.
5. Makeup Routine. Since makeup is something most of us women wear each and everyday, evaluating the safety of our daily routines is important!
