It’s been a little over three months since I have been able to SEE CLEARLY without contacts of glasses, which feels nothing short of a miracle!
You see, I have been wearing contacts and/or glasses since third grade, and have “blindly” reached for my glasses on my bed side table each morning for as long as I can remember.
Thanks to LASIK surgery under Dr. Ashraf of Atlanta Vision Institutes care and expertise, I can now see clearer than ever…and have nothing but positive things to say about my entire experience.
Frankly, Lasik was SO MUCH EASIER and LESS PAINFUL than I ever imagined it could or would be!
If you missed my “Part 1” post about what led me to Dr. Ashraf and my initial consultation with Atlanta Vision Institute, be sure to check it out here for more background on my procedure.
Today I am excited to share more with you about the actual day of procedure and my Lasik surgery ::
The day of my Lasik surgery, I arrived at the Johns Creek office about an hour before my scheduled procedure. I met with Dr. Ashraf whose warm personality and calm, confident demeanor immediately calmed my nerves! The rest of the Atlanta Vision Institute staff was equally amazing and made me feel at ease, and assured going into the surgery.
I took a Valium {my choice} to take the edge off, since I tend to be an anxious person, and then met with the surgical staff to go over post-op instructions. My husband, Mike, arrived at the medical office and before I knew it, it was time to go into the procedure room. I was super calm at this point, and Mike was able to watch the entire procedure through a window right outside the room.
There were two tables inside the room, and I believe how incredibly quick the entire procedure was! It was completely painless, as well! I laid on each table for only a few minutes each, and the entire LASIK procedure took less than 25 seconds on each eye. It was truly incredible! I was able to stand up mid-procedure to switch tables without any trouble, and then miraculously could see IMMEDIATELY, as soon as the procedure ended!
To my astonishment, I walked out of the room with clear eyesight, pain-free! I even took a selfie with Dr. Ashraf to prove how white and clear my eyes looked minutes after surgery.
After surgery, I took a few Ibroprofan pills and Mike drove me home to rest. I was sensitive on the way home and, thus, wore sunglasses and covered my eyes with a towel. Once I was home, I immediately laid down for a nap and made sure the room was as dark as possible. I was in moderate discomfort for an hour, but it helped to keep my eyes shut and rest. After an hour or so at home, the discomfort began to drastically decrease, and I felt so good, I was able to make phone calls and even watch a movie that evening! To be honest, the discomfort was completely tolerable {the ibrubrofan and eye drops really helped!}, and was over before I knew it!
I kept drops in my eyes religiously over the next week and made sure I followed post-op protractile. I dealt with dry eyes for the first few weeks, particuarly during/after a flight I took a week after surgery, but keep drops in my eyes constantly, and am happy to report that my eyes are no longer dry and feel completley normal!
After dealing with the headache of daily putting in, taking out and traveling with contacts for over 20 years, being able to see on my own is nothing short of FREEING! I only wish I had taken the leap to get LASIK sooner!
If you have contemplated LASIK, I cannot more highly recommend going for it! If you live in or around the Atlanta area, Dr. Ashraf at Atlanta Vision Institute, is who you want to see!
