It’s Spring, otherwise known as “the” season for cleaning, organizing and getting rid of clutter. The Edit team is often asked by clients what to do with various clothing, shoes and accessory items that we “edit out” during a wardrobe edit. So in the spirit of cleaning out closets {and offices, garages, etc.}, we’ve been doing a little research, and here are some worthy places to donate your un-wanted goods to…
Prom Dresses :: Donate My Dress distributes prom dresses to girls who cannot afford them.
Eyeglasses :: New Eyes for the Needy sends your old eyeglasses abroad, bringing the gift of sight to places like Bolivia, Ghana and Cambodia.
Running Shoes & Sneakers :: One World Running promotes healthy lifestyles by sending new or nearly new athletic shoes to both American shelters as well as Africa, Central America and Haiti. If your shoes aren’t “nearly new,” they will recycle them into material to make tracks and playgrounds!
Men’s Suits :: Career Gear gives interview clothing and career counseling to unemployed men.
Women’s Suits :: Dress for Success provides suits to disadvantaged women returning to or entering the workforce. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and additional apparel,up to a week’s worth of clothing, when she becomes employed.
Onesies :: Newborns in Need provides essentials for a child’s first weeks of life to hospitals serving ill babies.
Vintage Clothing {or clothes that no longer fit!} :: Web Thift Store enables you to sell old clothes {as well as electronics and giftcards} and to designate a charity to support through your sales.
If you know of another national charity that recycles gently-used wardrobe items for those in need, we would love to hear. Please comment and share, so we can help spread the word!
Stylishly yours,
