2018 was the year of major home renovation. We renovated our entire downstairs + added an addition. Truth be told, our house was torn up for the majority of the year and we were kitchen-less for nearly 6 months. Take my word for it, that is a LONG time to not have a kitchen when you have kids!
Thankfully, our downstairs and newly renovated all-white kitchen is {mostly} complete. I am still working on decor, window treatments and some finishing details, but overall loving how far this space has come. {And that it’s in operating order, again!}

Like I have mentioned in some past posts, this is the same home Mike and I purchased as newlyweds over 11 years ago. It’s certainly not a home I envisioned living in this long, but we have fallen in love with our community around us, where our kids have best friends and constant playmates all up and down our street. So, last year, after a lot of going back and forth about moving to a larger home, we decided to stay put and make our home the best it could be.
Our original kitchen was like most kitchens built 10+ years ago and with a bar-height countertop separating the kitchen from the breakfast nook. My favorite thing we did was tear out that counter to create an oversized island, that now serves as our “breakfast table” as well as central spot for entertaining, and opens up to a new living room addition. {See this post featuring our new living room that we converted out of our old garage!}
To make this kitchen remodel more affordable, we simply painted our existing cabinets since they were in good condition. I chose the same cabinet color as on our walls, Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.
For countertops, I went with a Calcutta Quartz that resembles marble, but that is much easier to clean and keep scratch-free. With all the kids we have through our kitchen each day, I knew this was not the time of my life to worry about high-maintenance counters!
I have always loved the look of bold gold accents in an all white kitchen. These three oversized Lambert pendent lights by Hudson Valley Lighting were a perfect choice to really set off the island and are one of my favorite kitchen details!
To continue the gold accent theme, I selected this affordable hardware by Emtek that resembles Renovation Hardware but for a fraction of the price. I am so impressed by the weight and quality of these pulls and knobs, and ordered additional ones for our family room cabinets.
I am also 100% obsessed with our backsplash, which is an ultra-shiny hand-created subway tile from Traditions in Tile. {Traditions in Tile has the most amazing selection of all things tile and the on-site designers are a huge help!} An added bonus is that this tile is super easy to wipe and clean! I love how the shine picks up light during the day!
Last but not least, since our kitchen opens into a casual family room, I wanted the space to appear as fluid and open as possible. With this in mind, I found these clear lucite and metallic barstools on Overstock, for a great price {much less than similar ones I had sourced}! I love that they swivel, are easy to clean and hold up great with the wear and tear of kids! They are sturdy, too!
This space, as like most kitchen renovations, took a lot of blood, sweat and tears. I am so happy that it was all worth it to create a new space that is bright and cheery, and become the central spot in our home for casual family dinners, entertaining friends as well as crafts and homework!
