In a perfect world, I would be more disciplined and not be completely tempted by all the desirable shoe trends that emerge each season. In an effort to keep my covetous gaze focused, I remind myself to zero in {for both myself and my clients} on the key essential styles that I should own for the upcoming season before I add anything trendy to my shopping list. The Edit style team encourages the same thought process.
Thank you all in advance for holding me accountable to resist the urge to splurge {deep breaths} when entering the shiny Nordstrom shoe section in the coming months. According to my hubby, I have all my necessities AND trends covered. Um, does he realize I am a stylist??!
All kidding aside, friends, I do believe in prioritizing the basics and then adding more in vogue options if your budget affords those additions.
Here are my “Fab Five” must-have shoes for Fall and Winter ::
1. BOOTIES and/or BOOTS :: I say pick your fancy. Booties {as highlighted in Lauren’s fall trends post} look great on nearly everyone {especially if you struggle with what I call “tall boot/leg-width syndrome”}, and this style can easily carry into spring as a wardrobe staple. Tall boots, like the ones pictured below, go with anything from denim to cords to skirts and dresses. They also come in an extended calf as well as a standard width, making them a great option for all leg builds.
2. LEOPARD PRINT :: Some of my clients resist “leopard anything” with an iron fist, and I encourage them to slip on something with a hint of animal print to start. An easy way to wear a bolder shoe statement is to pair them with a more neutral based outfit. You can wear animal print with confidence no matter how you integrate this look into your wardrobe. It is a “trend” that is appropriate for every age and one that is here to stay.
3. NUDE PUMP :: These are the key shoe ingredient for any woman’s closet. They can be worn to the office, an upscale event or dressed down for a more casual look with jeans. Nude pumps also style easily with everything including winter whites, colors, denim, and black.
4. D’ORSAY FLAT :: As I transition into fall, I typically rotate out of my go-to ballet flats from summer to this more sophisticated, structured alternative. The D’orsay flat is considered one of the primary flat-shoe trends for Fall! You ladies with unique feet may find yourself surprised at how well this style accommodates a wide or flat-footed woman.
5. ADORABLE TENNI’S :: If you do not have a sleek pair of tennis shoes for kicking around with your BFF at the gym or for a casual day-date with your significant other, get a fun pair pronto! I am particularly drawn to the vintage styles making a come back this fall. These look super cute paired with jeans or even a skirt.
